My Modded Kayak Tackle Box

 
Now this post isn’t about what is contained within the box, it’s purely about the box itself.

I have a few tackle boxes, one for storing spares at home, one for spinning, one for rigs and one for kayak fishing.

My kayak tackle box started off as a fairly standard double sided tackle box. What is most important to me in a kayak tackle box, is to keep everything safe in the event of a capsize. So when choosing a box you need to make sure the lid has heavy and strong clips. Another good feature to look for is something you can attach a clip to.

I modded my box by drilling holes in the lids and the bottom of the box. This allows for any water that may splash over the box to drain through, rather than your tackle sitting in salty water all day (you want to drill small holes only a couple mil wide, otherwise your hooks and clips will get caught up in them. The next thing I did was to cut some of the sections out to make larger sections with room for long trolling lures. Finally I attached a cord with a good quality carabiner to the box, this allows me to clip it onto the yak with ease and means that If I ever do capsize, I wont loose the valuable lures inside.
