The Man Cave

Unfortunately in England, you can’t be outside 100% of the time and sometimes have to retreat to your Man Cave. Here you can read about DIY, Music, Entertainment and VW Transporters!

After getting the kitchen back to a blank canvas, it was time to start thinking about the flooring. It’s much easier to tile the floor before you put your base units in as you’ve got a nice, big, clean space to work in and you can level out the flooring which makes putting down your units easier. I decided to opt for ceramic tiles as these have several benefits. So I bought these grey slate effect tiles from Tile…

When I first went to view my house, way back at the beginning of the year, I could tell even then that the kitchen was going to be the biggest job. A couple of months later, in April, I completed and got the keys to the property. On the first few trips over to the house I imagined what the kitchen would look like when finished and measured up so we could start designing the layout and thinking about…

Buying my own house was just step one. What I’ve been aiming to do over the past months is add my own style to make it really feel like My Home. Most people tell me that I have quite a quirky taste; I guess it’s true as I’ve never been to a house that has a similar design to mine. I don’t know whether that’s good or bad? However, I’m so proud of the cool additions I have…

When decorating, I’m not one for sticking to a particular style, I’d rather just do my own thing. I think when you decorate purely in one theme, your rooms end up looking void of personality, in my opinion it’s better to just do whatever you want, exactly how you want it. No one else is living in your house, it’s yours; there’s no point decorating your home like a photograph in a magazine!   I love vintage everything; most…

I recently bought Vampire Weekend’s eponymous album from a charity shop for a bargainous £1 and have been loving listening to it. I had the album in digital format but it’s way more fun listening to the whole thing from start to finish with non of this iPhone nonsense. Here are three of my favourite songs by the New York rock band: Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma Vampire Weekend – Giving Up The Gun Vampire Weekend – A-Punk

When I first got into the house, removing all the wallpaper, re-plastering, skimming and producing some nice clean white walls was a huge priority. I was just planning on getting the whole building to a white, blank canvas and then going from there – covering the place in colour. Being a Primary School Teacher, I’m used to working in a brightly coloured environment. I love that it’s full of bright displays and children’s work – my classroom doesn’t have…

When over a month ago, I first got the keys and opened the door to my house, I was greeted by this view of a gorgeous 70s hatch, through from the lounge to the kitchen. I’m a big fan of vintage but this architectural retroness isn’t particularly to my taste. Here is what we did about it…   We started off by getting rid of that wallpaper, sorting out the walls (filling and re-plastering), renovating the coving and finally…

As you have probably guessed, I have recently bought a house and have been adding my own style to make it interesting, homely and fun. Once I got the place carpeted, one of the first “rooms” I decorated was the porch. I understand it’s only a porch, but I feel it’s the first thing visitors will see, therefore I want to make a good impression. So by adding simple yet unique items in this small room, I have been…

Since moving in the house, I’ve collected some amazing kitchen gadgets which my girlfriend and I use every single day. We agree that each one is unique in design- a must have in every kitchen. Here are our 5 of our favourites: 1. OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Rotating Utensil Holder What a great product! This Rotating Utensil Holder by OXO has a large diameter (5.5″) so it can fit all of our utensils inside with ease-I think we…

As I’ve already mentioned, I’ve recently bought my first house. I’ve done this on my own as I’ve only been seeing my girlfriend for eight months and, as lovely as she is, buying a house together this soon would be a bit crazy! Saying that, she is going to get rid of her flat and come and live with me to see how that goes. As awesome and exciting as this is, it does present a bit of a…
