The Christmas lights at Mousehole are a Cornish institution now being in their 50th year! It was all started by a local artist called Joan Gillchrest whom, in 1963 decided to run a string of Christmas lights along both quays in the small fishing village of Mousehole, in order to make it look a bit more festive. Since then the display has grown and now uses an incredible 7000 bulbs, inexcess of 5.5 miles of cable and has an annual cost of about £16,000. All of that money is funded by donations so make sure you give generously when you visit.

I love the brightly coloured displays and wandering around the ancient, narrow streets. Everyone has their own favourite display but mine has got to be the green sea serpent! It can be very cold, especially if there is a strong sea wind, so wrap up very warm. This year I wore my new hat and gloves from Heat Holders which kept me uber snug. They have this special soft, fluffy lining which they’ve called heatweaver, it’s totally gnarly and traps warm air next to your skin, keeping you toasty. I bought them in a stylish plain black which looks smart and simple and means you can wear them with pretty much anything. I also suggest buying some of the mulled wine they have on sale, which is not only delicious but will also warm your insides. If you haven’t visited the Mousehole lights display yet, I wholeheartedly recommend you do so.

The Mousehole Christmas lights are on from the 14th December 2013 until 4th January 2014 between 5pm and 11pm, definitely go and pay them a visit! For more information have a look at their site here.
