Pentagon Geraki Jacket Review

For the last few months, I’ve been wearing and checking out the Geraki Jacket by Pentagon. This is an ultra lightweight duck down jacket and is ideal for all kinds of outdoor activities. Over the last couple of months, we have had some super cold weather which have given me the ideal conditions to test out this jacket.

The duck down in this jacket is unbelievable, it is really, really warm. So what is down? Down is the soft, fluffy undercoat that lies underneath the main feathers of birds. Birds have evolved this incredible coat in order to keep them warm, it does this by trapping the heat from your body and preventing it from escaping. When used as insulation, down has an incredible warmth to weight ratio and keeps you amazingly warm for something so light.

To keep the heat in even further, the Pentagon jacket has elasticated cuffs to keep arms warm. Along with this, there is an adjustable bottom hem with elastic cords which allows you to get an individual fit. I found that you could get an excellent fit with these adjustments. This good fit allows the jacket’s insulation to work even more efficiently.

The Pentagon Geraki Jacket has several multiple pockets each with YKK zips. I found the exterior chest pocket extremely useful for items that you want to get your hands on quickly. It is lined with fleece which I really like as I always keep my phone in this pocket. In the chest pocket there is a rubberized cord port which is great for using your phone or mp3 player when on the go. There are two more hand pockets which are really useful on cold days for putting your hands in whilst you walk. They also have a fleece lining which give you even greater warmth.

The fabric is very soft and feels great to wear. It is also very fast drying and although the coat isn’t designed for rain as it doesn’t have a hood but water does bead on the material and in my experience stands up well in a shower. Across the shoulders and elbows, Pentagon have used an even more durable and tougher taslon ripstop material. This helps the jacket to stand up to whatever adventure you can throw at it.

As I mentioned earlier, one of the best things about down is that it is super light and can squish down to a tiny size. It also doesn’t suffer any damage like other materials would when being compressed. The Pentagon jacket comes with a handy drawstring carry bag. I’ve found this very useful when travelling as it allows you to put the jacket in the bottom of your backpack so it’s ready for whenever you may need it. This along with the weight and small size means that you forget you’ve even packed it.

Along with a YKK front zipper the Geraki has a soft chin guard and a collar that is lined with fleece to keep you comfortable and cosy in all environments. The Pentagon Geraki Jacket from Military 1st is an excellent jacket for all seasons; the incredible down will keep you warm even in the harshest of winters but due to the incredible lightness of the jacket it is also very good to keep in your pack all year round. I think it’s the perfect jacket for any adventure be it fishing, hiking, camping or travel.
