Columbia Women’s Caldorado II Outdry EX Shoe Review

A few years ago, I got a pair of Ventrailia Outdry Trail shoes by Columbia and have worn them nearly every day since, so I thought it was time for a new pair. For obvious reasons, I chose Columbia again. Everything by Columbia that I have owned has been made to a very high standard and always looks great. After browsing, I chose the Columbia Women’s Caldorado II Outdry EX Shoe, as they look very cool and have some awesome features too.

I think a pair of trail shoes need to be really comfortable. These shoes have something called a FluidFoam midsole that ensures my feet feel well cushioned, no matter what the path is like underfoot. They also help my feet to feel really supported. These shoes provide the perfect comfort for any terrain such as the Cornish coastal path, woodland trails, scrambling up rocks and even walking around a town centre. Although sturdy, they have this amazing flexibility, which enhances the walking experience a great deal.

These shoes have good grip, especially when walking over rocks and rugged terrain. This is due to the tread on the base of the trainer. It has grooved, multi-directional patterns which really help provide adequate traction for trail walking. The soles are made from a rubber, which not only helps grip better, but gives further comfort when wearing too. As the soles are thick, they protect your feet from any debris, rocks or roots you may encounter.

What makes these trail shoes stand out for me is the waterproof material that is used on the outside of the shoe. Columbia call this OutDry Extreme exterior membrane and it is fantastic. It really does make the shoe 100% waterproof. I love this feature, especially when wearing in very rainy conditions or even tackling the stepping stones across a stream. My socks always stay completely dry and due to the material being so breathable, my feet have never got hot and bothered, no matter how far I’ve walked. I think this exterior waterproof membrane is superior to the mid layered one that my old shoes had. This is because it keeps all of the shoe dry which in turn keeps them lighter in wet conditions. You can even see the water beading on the shoe!

These trail shoes are absolutely perfect for every occasion as they are comfortable, protect the feet and look great in all settings. They are well worth investing in as you know that you will be getting such great quality from a well-established, reliable brand. I am so happy with these shoes and cannot wait to take them on even more adventures throughout the year. These Columbia trail shoes and many more are available in a range of styles and colours at Cotswold Outdoor.
