Probably the best band to come out of Portland, Oregon, The Decemberists are an indie folk rock band that are truly superb. One of the many things I like about them is how their songs often feature local folklore and history; this feels very Cornish – and I love it. Frank Turner is a folky, punk singer from Hampshire. I was a big fan of him in his post hardcore band – Million Dead, I was really sad when they split up, but the sadness soon fell away when I heard his solo folk stuff. This weeks Three on Thursday is the fantastic although fairly unknown Darwin Deez. They’re an indie band from New York. I love their uplifting, creative sound and the singer Darwin’s quirky look.
